FEI Barefoot Retreats Burnham Market International Horse Trials – Saturday Round-up

Posted on April 12, 2025 by Categories: News Story

The packed crowds that headed to the north Norfolk coast were treated to another glorious day of sunshine at the FEI Barefoot Retreats Burnham Market International Horse Trials. The atmosphere matched the forecast perfectly, with plenty of smiles and good vibes.

There is a new leader in the CCI4*-S at the end of the second day, with Oliver Townend and Cooley Rosalent now sitting in the top spot. The pair, who finished second in this class last year posted a score of 25.6, less than one mark ahead of Emily King and Valmy Biats in second (26.2). Overnight leader, Yasmin Ingham and Rehy DJ move down to third.

“I was extremely happy with Cooley Rosalent’s performance today,” said Oliver. “She’s a very good horse but we’re preparing her for her first Badminton, and I was very happy with the test. It was definitely a clear round and a good clear round. I was thrilled to see that she’s overnight leader, I felt that she deserved to be.”

With such strong entries in this class, there are still some dressage performances to come tomorrow morning before the jumping phases, including Oliver with his Olympic team Gold medallist, Ballaghmor Class and their Tokyo team mates Laura Collett and London 52.

First out on the courses tomorrow will be the CCI3*-S competitors. After another busy day of dressage, the lead in this class remains unchanged with Louise Bradley and Ardeo Mandela retaining the top spot with their score of 27.1. However, their advantage has reduced to just 0.1 of a penalty, with India’s Shashank Kanumuri and Gideon II moving into second place with a score of 27.2. Alex Bragg and Jaeger Master have dropped one place into third, completing the top three ahead of the jumping phases.

“This is my first CCI3*-S competition,” said Shashank of his performance. “This is a new level for me, so over the last few days I was really practising the test. In my mind I just wanted to implement everything we practised at home, so it was really nice.”

National classes

There was another action-packed day of national classes, including a win in the Advanced class (section N) for Michael Owen and J’adore Salsa.

“It was a fantastic result for the mare today, I’m absolutely thrilled for her,” said Michael. “She absolutely flew round there today and jumped all the combinations really well. I thought the course was a fantastic blend of technical things and some good galloping fences, so I’m absolutely thrilled with her.”
